Ho ho ho boys and girls,
The first intimations of Winter were apparent by the beginning of October...
...and the dew was visible on this grassy path on Ditchling Common soon after the Autumn-browned bracken had just been mowed on either side...
...but, elsewhere, it had been left to allow the morning sun to do its alchemy to turn it into pure gold...
...which must be worth another look...
...then there were showers with odd glimpses of sunlight...
...soon followed by a few puddles...
...and the odd orchestrated bit of Autumn colour...
...a quick burst of fungi...
...and then, suddenly, it got colder...
...with actual frost...
...like proper Winter...
......crunchy underfoot and all...
...with the first intimations that Christmas was on its way...
...then the paths started to get wet and muddy...
...and, as Christmas approached...
...I started taking Arty out for paddlies rather than walkies...
...and soon after that we were wading upstream...
...now, I know that this is a time of year for reflection but...
...I've been producing a couple of paintings of Sheffield Park...
...I'm not sure whether they're completely finished yet, but I've got until the end of January before I have to submit images for the Artists' Open Houses brochure.
I am sitting, writing this in my lounge where I am completely surrounded (except for a couple of gaps in those hard-to-reach corners) by greetings cards that are festooned all round the room. So, thank you to all of you who sent me cards and, for all those of you who didn't get one from me, (almost certainly because I don't have an address for you), here's this year's image...
"For Mighty Dread Had Seized Their Troubled Minds"
'Tis the night before Christmas and I've got to send this off, So, it only remains for me to say Merry Christmas to all and to all a Goodnight!
And, tomorrow, we'll get Xmas done!
Love,
Philip Xx
