Renamed the "Brighton Pier" by its jealous owners, the "Palace Pier" retains its original name with all but them. Crowds throng the walkways at the height of the season, others lounge in deckchairs admiring the view, while the shadows of one of the ever present seagulls haunts the pavement, itself unseen. It will leave its mark in other ways before its day is done.
